The Easter Bunny Visits the Bering Sea
The sun rose on a sunny Easter Sunday out here in the Bering Sea. It was pretty much just another workday for the scientists; many of them started new experiments this morning. Research cruises go on at all times. Scientists and crew can miss children’s birthdays, holidays, a parent’s death.
“I’ve spent four or five Christmases and New Years in the Antarctic so it’s kind of old hat for me,” says technician Dan Naber, from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. But the holiday didn’t go completely unmarked. Chocolate eggs appeared, and dinner was a special feast indeed.
